- Drive the full length of Sunset, not just the Strip, but from downtown LA all the way to the Beach, in time for sunset, checking out all of the fabulous sights and neighborhoods along the way

- Drive up the coast to County Line to watch the surfers (or surf, whatever your pleasure) and a bowl of clam chowder at Neptune's Net

- Drive Laurel Canyon with a stop at Pace, the little restaurant at Lookout Mountain Road 

- Drive the stretch of La Cienega that takes you through the oil fields

- Drive the part of the 10 Freeway with the windmills to remind you of the final scene in Less Than Zero – Palm Springs

- Drive through the wetlands, what's left of them - Playa Del Rey

 

- Hike in Agoura Hills near the old Peter Strauss Ranch - Malibu

- Walk around the Arts District with a bratwurst from Wurstkuche - Downtown

- Climb the stairs to the Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook at sunset – Culver City

- Hike Lake Hollywood or the Silver Lake reservoir – Silver Lake

- See a cricket game at the Leo Magnus Cricket Complex - Woodley Park, Van Nuys

- Visit The Gardens at the Huntington Library (Succulent Garden, Japanese Garden plus the Bukowski Papers) - Pasadena

- Visit the Griffith Park Observatory (hike up to the Dante's Peak and stop for lavender shortbread and cappuccino at Trails snack shack on Fern Dell on the way down) – Los Feliz

- Go to the Hollywood Farmers Market on Sunday mornings (or countless others across LA) - Hollywood

- Visit the Japanese Gardens at UCLA - Westwood

- Visit the Japanese Gardens at California State University Long Beach – Long Beach

- Go to the Los Angeles Equestrian Center to catch a horse show or simply walk around - Burbank

- Tour the Los Angeles River, an amazing, ecologically vibrant waterway that supports an array of plants and wildlife, as well as new recreational opportunities – Downtown, (http://www.kcet.org/socal/departures/fieldguides/lariver/)

- Hike Los Liones/Parker Mesa in the Santa Monica Mountains – Santa Monica

 -Kayak in the marina - Marina del Rey

- Walk Muscle Beach and the Venice Boardwalk, then to the Rose Café for brunch - Venice

- Hike the short hike to the top of Runyon Canyon, where you can see the entire basin down to San Pedro and much of the San Fernando Valley to the north

- Walk the Venice canals, then over to Abbot Kinney, for a great sampling of food and shopping - Venice

- Take the Zip-line on Catalina Island – Catalina
